I am interested in enrolling my teen in your program. How are the fees structured? Are scholarships available?

NH Teen Institute is able to offer our programs at a reduced cost due to a generous grant award from the NH Department of Health and Human Services, and through support from several New Hampshire-based foundations. We do everything we can to help participants secure the necessary funds, from connecting them with community coalitions interested in sponsoring youth, to offering sliding scale scholarships for teens that are unable to afford their portion of the cost. Teen Institute is a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization. Please contact us for assistance.

I know my child is experimenting with alcohol or other drugs. Will they be evaluated or get treatment during their Teen Institute program? What happens if they are caught in possession during the program?

NH Teen Institute is not a clinical setting designed to treat or care for people seeking detox or other treatment for alcohol and other drug related problems. We offer prevention-oriented leadership training programs designed to provide useful and accurate information about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, and to empower young people to make positive decisions and to engage in creative, community-building activities.

We do accept young people into our programs that have struggled with alcohol and other drug problems in the past and are committed to improving their decision-making.

Any young person found in possession or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs will be sent home.

I am interested in attending a Teen Institute program, but don't know anyone else planning to attend. Will it be awkward if I don't know anyone else going? It takes me a while to feel comfortable with a new group.

The answer is most definitely no... it won't be awkward not knowing anyone when you arrive. Many of the other folks attending also are coming on their own. We realize that this can be intimidating, and make every effort to quickly help everyone feel at home. From the moment you arrive, we create an environment where everyone feels welcome and everyone gets a chance to meet new people. Most people report that one of their favorite experiences at TI was the chance to make friends with so many new people from around the state.

I just learned about your program, but all of the registration deadlines have passed. Could I still try to enroll or do I have to wait until next year?

Please call us at (603) 889-1090 or send an urgent e-mail to Heather right away! We are able to create a waiting list for some programs, and sometimes teens need to cancel at the last minute due to illness. Your Health Forms can't be sent via fax, but we can work with you to complete everything promptly in the hopes we can squeeze you in to your preferred dates.

I know that a group of students from my school went to a TI weekend and loved it. Can I attend a program if my school or community group doesn't sponsor me?

Yes! TI's Summer Leadership Program is open to any high school student that is interested, with or without sponsorship. Check out the Summer Program link for more information.

Is it possible to arrange for a Teen Institute staff member to come to our school to present a program or to provide consultation?

Teen Institute is available to present programs in individual schools or to clusters of schools throughout New Hampshire. Although we only have a small number of employees, we have hundreds of youth and adult volunteers who are also capable of assisting with your leadership and prevention training. Call us at 889-1090 or fill out a Workshop Request Form to get the conversation started! We are always happy to brainstorm with you the best way to help you achieve your goals.
