Leaders in Prevention (LIP)

Our weekend Leaders In Prevention program brings together a team of eight middle school students and two advisors for a weekend of activities and action planning with numerous other teams from across New Hampshire.

Schools identify students — from all walks of life and levels of skill — with leadership potential, that are capable of working as part of a team, and willing to bring new skills back to their community.

Throughout the weekend, each team works together, while also sharing many activities with the whole group, and giving and receiving feedback. Students participate in an array of learning opportunities to foster personal growth, leadership skills and an understanding of the importance of community. Each has the opportunity to explore new ideas and options, to connect with his or her own value system and the rest of the community, and to grow in meaningful ways.

In addition, each team also designs an action plan for a project they will implement in their school or community. Through this process, they learn more about themselves and each other, and about how to work effectively as a team.

Enrolling a team is simple!

  1. Identify an advisor within your school to attend the weekend and to serve as the primary contact person.
  2. Identify a second advisor, usually a school employee or parent, to join for the weekend and help with some follow-up activities.
  3. Contact our office for 2012 LIP dates.
  4. Select eight students to attend.
  5. Forward a check or purchase order with a completed Enrollment Form. The fee includes food, lodging, program supplies and team resources. You are responsible for transportation.
